It might sound pretty crazy, but Andi and I were pretty upset when Hostess went under, and not for the reason you might think. Sure, we like a DingDong as much anyone, but what we really liked was their Beefsteak Rye Bread. We didn't even know Hostess made it until we could no longer find it on store shelves!
We recently started to see it appear again in grocery stores, but for a long while we had quite the drought of delicious rye bread for sandwiches.
For our wedding shower, one of the gifts we were so excited to get was our Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer... We couldn't wait to break it out and start putting it to good use!
I had read that rye bread wasn't one of the easiest breads to make, so I first started with a more basic wheat bread. We really like how it turned out and it made for delicious sandwiches. After a few tries with that, I figured it was as good a time as any to try some rye bread. I did a little research on the web and found what I thought would be a really great recipe by Elise Bauer on SimplyRecipes.com.

What an amazing recipe! My very first try turned out to be the most amazing rye bread I've ever had. I even made the mistake of forgetting to add the vegetable oil to the post, but on further research I found that really just helps preserve the bread a little longer.
This bread has so much flavor. If you are looking for a rye bread recipe, I highly recommend you try this one. It was simply delicious!
